Nicholas J. Sanito, D.O.
Dr. Sanito is a native of Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from Adelphi University in New York in 1984, he obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Southeastern University of the Health Sciences in North Miami Beach, Florida, in 1989. He then interned, completed his residency, and performed his Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Kennedy Memorial Hospital's University Medical Center in Stratford, New Jersey in 1994. After a visit to Aiken that same year, he was so taken with our area that he decided to come here to establish his own practice. He has called Aiken home ever since, and tells anyone who will listen that he can't think of a better place to raise his family.

Thanks to Dr. Sanito's arrival, many who previously had to travel to Augusta or Columbia for help with their pulmonary problems were able to find treatment closer to home. In fact, he has treated more than 5,000 patients since coming to Aiken. Dr. Sanito thinks of Pulmonology as something of a "niche" specialty. It involves knowledge of cardiology, rheumatology, oncology, infectious diseases and it often demands intensive care procedures. A Pulmonologist is frequently responsible for decisions involving life-support systems for patients who are critically ill.

When not attending to his patients or staying current on new developments in Pulmonary medicine and sleep disorders, Dr. Sanito enjoys working on his golf game and keeping up with his beloved New York Mets. Dr. Sanito, his wife, Bridget, and their two children reside in Aiken.
